HASTINGS Football Club will step down from the Mornington Peninsula Nepean league's premier division next season in an effort to rebuild the club.
Hastings will compete in the league's Nepean division from next season, the MPNFL announced.
Current Nepean division club Langwarrin will fill the vacancy in the premier Peninsula division.
Hastings president Kevin Miles told local media the club felt "out of its depth" in the Peninsula division.
"The top five teams seem to be getting further ahead of everybody and with our thirds battling every week we probably need to move to Nepean division and rebuild from there," he said.
The division switch will allow Hastings to rekindle old rivalries with clubs such as Sorrento, Rye and Frankston Bombers.
Hastings' senior team, coached by former Collingwood and Western Bulldogs player Tyson Lane, finished second-last this year with just three wins.
Its reserves team won four matches, while its under-18s finished last with just one victory.
