Vale to a good mate of the MPNFL’s –
Arthur (“THE ORACLE”) Murphy
It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Arthur (Murph) last Wednesday. Arthur had been in ill health for quite a while prior to being hospitalized for the last time with pneumonia. When I first started work for the MPNFL back in 1995, Arthur would come in every Monday morning with fresh flowers that he had picked out of his own garden, which really brightened up our office. (That was after he had called in to see Pot Shots at the Leader). Murph was the “official” time keeper of all of our Junior Interleague and Intraleague sides, all those freezing cold nights at Dandenong and the Yarra Valley, he was always there. He always went on the bus with the boys, but often myself or Benno brought him home because he would want to stay and watch the seniors play. He was a great story teller of his earlier days going around with the ‘carnivals’ and his award winning flowers. When I needed him for something, and he wasn’t home, I only had to call the Carrum Downs Bingo Centre, because that’s where I would find him. Always the first to put his hand up for any jobs on the Interleague trips and his heart always remained with the Junior teams. See ya later Murph…Sue.
